Courtyard, english garden, farmhouse garden, kitchen courtyard
A walled Kitchen Courtyard created for a typical English Farmhouse located in rural Kent, forms the first phase of a masterplan of the gardens. On entry to the Courtyard, a brick path welcomes you into a secluded, pleached lined garden used for cooking, entertaining and relaxing. An intricately detailed pad of Kentish peg tile and Dutch brick, creates a space to pause and allows a connecting point for paths leading to other gardens. Limestone chippings surrounding the brick surfaces are loosely planted with cloud clipped low Buxus topiary, forming the structure of the planting scheme; softened with cottage style flowers and herbs which are used for cooking at the outdoor kitchen. Ambient uplighting of the multistem specimens and espalier pears extends the use of this Courtyard garden into the evening to create an outdoor room for day and night.
