coastal garden, coastal planting, modern rustic, planting design
We worked with local architects Urban & Rural to create a garden for a striking, modern house in Whitstable, Kent. With the hard landscaping elements already completed, we were asked to introduce a planting scheme to bring the house and garden alive, along with selecting sculptural planters and beautiful furniture to reflect the interior styling of the house. The terrace areas on various levels have been linked with crushed shell paths. Oversized containers planted with multistem specimen trees, clipped topiary balls and intense coloured flowers, have been thoughtfully positioned to soften the level changes and create a journey through the garden, travelling between large platforms of clipped Beech and Holly and mass planting of herbaceous perennials and grasses. A garden with a strong sense of character has been created to stand up to the architecture of the bold, black building.
